Voting should be a legal citizen obligation and "civic duty" under the law.

As individuals we have already consented to laws that are more onerous, time consuming and intrusive than a citizen’s occasional mandatory trip to a polling station.
Therefore voting like jury duty, compulsory schooling, driver’s licenses and paying our taxes should become another legal obligation and civic duty that is required under our laws.

Failure to attend at a polling booth on election days should result not in fines or taxes, but rather the denial of government services and benefits.
Citizens who fails to show up at polling stations on election day in my opinion have forfeited their right and ability to obtain from government social assistance, unemployment, welfare benefits, drivers licenses, pass ports or health cards.

This would be the fastest most effective way to raise the level of participation in our municipal, provincial and federal elections of minority and majority groups.

The media did not elect Rob Ford the people did and what left leaning topics the media awaits to hear Mr. Ford address is irrelevant for the next 4 years.

The Smitherman and Pantalone spend, tax and borrows vision supported by the main stream media was soundly rejected by voters.

After 13 years the media still does not get it. Toronto is ONE CITY and amalgamation is here to stay yet after 13 years the media still does not get it.

Over the same past 13 years city councillors failed to think and act with any cohesive one city concept around our one amalgamated city.

Economic development for the region is a responsibility of the province and the federal government, not the city of Toronto.

The most essential part of moving the city ahead is to get spending under control and our transportation system back on track.

The congestion on the don valley and Gardner and the internal street barriers erected throughout the down town core is costing hundreds of millions of dollars in lost productivity and environmental costs to the city and its residents

The city must start looking after the neglected infrastructures needed throughout the entire one city and get back to the core services which they tax us for and are directly responsible for.

Smaller government, less regulations is the answer not more government with numerous regulations and bylaws for each former borough. www.peterclarketoronto.com

Citizens have sent the main stream media a simple message of restraint. Reminding politicians who they work for and that they had better stop the reckless spending.

Councillor’s best remember that they work for the people not for their parochial self serving interest as has been the case for the past 13 years.

Fiscal restraint is something every voter knows and manages on a monthly basis. For the media to refer to the people of Toronto as having simple minds is asinine.

The herds of city staff better come to the realization that their boss is the mayor. If they can not follow his instructions they had best resign and go work for themselves.

The media must understand that amalgamation is here to stay.
Best these members of council and city staff take head or they will be one term councillors and ex employees of city hall. www.peterclarketoronto.com

More government, more taxes are what a decentralized bureaucracy represents and that is not what the voters in North York and throughout Toronto voted for on Oct 25. This incumbents days of continued reckless spending despite his own rhetoric are going to come to end end during the next four years. Considering the fact that out of 48,832 registered voters, 35,166 or 72% of the taxpaying public in ward 23 did not support or vote for the incumbent. He along with other left leaning career politicians had better come up with some realistic spending cuts, something they failed to do during this past election. If he continues with his push for larger not smaller government and more unsustainable programs the peoples appreciation and support for such reckless spending will quickly evaporate over the next four years. peterclarketoronto.com

Case Ootes an excellent choice to head Fords transition team. However, Ford would be wise to keep all left leaning reckless spending incumbent councillors off and far from the inner circles of his new executive team and away from any decision making process during the next 4 years. peterclarketoronto.com
