1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
Developing budget transparency for the taxpayer; appointing a comptroller for accountability; making it easier to run a small business; creating a different commercial and residential tax system to assist the citizens and small businesses of Toronto; implementing geothermal heat installation for larger buildings and neighbourhoods; and building environmentally friendly incinerators to recover energy that can be recycled into alternative heating sources, as they do in Vaughan, to help alleviate the garbage crisis. The co-generation energy will be used for heating and electricity.
To realize the Green Links project that uses existing railway tracks that run from downtown to the airport. This is an environmental initiative that would link liberty Village and Fort York to King Street and be covered by a green roof.
Partial funding is already in place and would enable the project to be completed by the PanAm Games.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I’ve lived in Ward 19 for 55 years and have actively participated in numerous community projects.
For the last 35 years I have been an active member of the community.
My knowledge of the dynamics of city hall and its bylaws have allowed me to help many fellow members of the community.
Being a master electrician and possessing a thorough understanding of the building code, I have instigated positive changes that have created safer buildings.
People know I will help them solve any municipal problems they may have.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
Realizing the Green Links project; appointing a comptroller to ensure that budget spending is transparent; changing the commercial and residential tax bases; implementing neighbourhood geothermal heat; accelerating the program to collect organic waste from condominiums, townhouses and apartments; restoring the 30-year-old segregated Bloor Street Bike Path; eliminating bureaucracy so city hall can run more efficiently and cost effectively; making city hall more accessible to residents so they can have their problems addressed.
I plan to continue to be active in the community and to listen to the concerns at hand and address them.
4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
I was born and live in Ward 19. This is my home where I live, work and play.
For many years I have been involved in the community as a citizen activist, working with people to make connections with city hall to solve problems.
Most recently, I protested the garbage dumping and chemical spraying at Christie Pits during the strike and worked on the new Green Links project.
We need to continue to work together to provide real solutions to community problems.
We can do better.
5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
Himy Seyd
