1. What key issues define your campaign platform?

I am asking to be re-elected so we can finish the job of building more beautiful parks, ensuring our local streets are more than just roads for cars, and continuing to build a city that is an affordable, inclusive home for all.
To achieve these goals, I believe local residents should have more control over the programming and maintenance of their parks, that relevant and affordable city services should exist in the neighbourhoods that need them and that our transportation systems must address the needs of the people who live in Ward 20, not just the ones who are passing through it.
We need to think about how to build a city, rather than about simply adding buildings to the city. Local citizens need to be given the opportunity and tools to lead the way to ensure we create stronger, vibrant and more sustainable neighbourhoods for all.

2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
During my first term as a city councillor, I proved I can deliver real change to neighbourhoods throughout Ward 20. I fulfilled a campaign pledge to build more family housing downtown – with six times more family housing units built in Ward 20 than in the decade before I took office. I worked with residents to reform the planning process.
I secured the money and resources to redevelop local parks in every neighbourhood from the waterfront to the Annex. I also helped create and lead a neighbourhood planning and re-visioning process for Alexandra Park, the first public housing revitalization project in the city’s history that will not require funds from Ottawa and Queen’s Park.
More work is needed to ensure that neighbourhoods in Ward 20 are affordable, inclusive, beautiful and green – and my record shows that I have the knowledge, expertise and experience to achieve these goals.

3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
I  am particularly looking forward to overseeing the revitalization of Alexandra Park, while ensuring no residents are displaced during construction.
I plan to work with local residents and businesses on the revitalization of the John Street corridor, which links the Art Gallery of Ontario and The Ontario College of Art and Design to the waterfront with three new parks and squares.
Re-evaluating the Richmond-Adelaide Corridor to determine how these streets could better serve the neighbourhood is another priority.
I also wish to work with residents to reform how local parks are managed by enabling communities to form Park Improvement Associations so they can generate funding and have more control over the programming and maintenance of their parks.
