1. What key issues define your campaign platform?

The key issues in the ward include city spending, taxes, transportation and parks and recreation. Residents have expressed concern about how the City sets priorities and how spending decisions are made. There is also a great deal of frustration at the lack of coordination of road and sewer repair. Several north-south routes are under construction at the same time and with the narrowing of Jarvis, commuting downtown has become more difficult. For residents who rely on transit, there are concerns about how the transit will be expanded and how they will be able to get around the City. Residential and multi-residential development also continue to put pressure on the neighbourhood.

2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I am the best candidate for Eglinton-Lawrence because of the knowledge and experience I have gained over the past seven years. This will make me a stronger representative for Ward 16 and a stronger partner to participate in the renewal of our municipal government. I have lived in the community for more than 11 years and my children attend the local schools. We use the parks, pools and arenas and recognize how important these assets are to our community. Working in partnership with the local community we have achieved many impressive results including: keeping the school pools open, enhancing our local playgrounds, bringing a Famers’ Market to Eglinton Park, rejuvenating the local ravine network, implementing a mural program, freezing the garbage fees, introducing a noise by-law to limit construction noise, creating an Avenue Road Community Group, implementing a local Business Improvement Area on Yonge between Eglinton and Lawrence and partnering with schools on environmental initiatives. I have the knowledge, experience and track record to deliver results.

3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
The plans for the ward include continuing to build and enhance the local parks in the area including Lytton Park, Brookdale Park and the ravine system; supporting the local economy through helping new businesses locate to the area; enhancing the partnerships with the local schools to engage youth in civic issues; continue to bring a balanced approach to development pressures in the community, and working to keep our neighbourhoods safe.

4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
I have been the local councillor for seven years. Prior to being elected, I worked for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care as a project-manager. I have worked in the public and private sector and have held several management positions. I have a BA (hons) from the University of Western Ontario, a degree in journalism from Boston University and a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University. I am married and have two young children. Together we spend our time in the community; playing in parks, shopping on Yonge and Eglinton, eating ice-cream from the Baskin-Robbins on Avenue Road and playing tennis at Lytton Park.

5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
At the outset of the election, I said that I would not be endorsing anyone for mayor. I have spent the last several months listening to each of the candidate’s platforms and having meetings with them to discuss their plans for Toronto. I look forward to working with whoever Torontonians elect for mayor.
