1. What key issues define your campaign platform?

Certainly city finances are a key component of my platform. If we are going to protect the parks, libraries, transit and city programs that Torontonians use and care about, then we have to make sure our tax dollars are spent in a sensible manner.
Transit is another major part of my platform. We deserve a world-class transit system, one that integrates all forms of transportation but that doesn’t prioritize one form over another.
In addition, neighbourhoods, the environment and accessibility for seniors, youth and families all play a prominent role in my platform.

2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
Because I hear and understand what Torontonians have been trying to tell city hall for some time now. My family and I have made Ward 27 our home. My husband runs his business in the ward and our children attend the local public school. We use and rely on Toronto’s parks, programs and transit system. Toronto’s services are important to my family as I know they are to all the residents of Ward 27 and Toronto.
I believe that city hall is removed from the everyday experiences of most people. I am running for council to change this.
I am your practical choice. With my experience in politics, communications and community advocacy, I will reconnect you with city hall and get the results you deserve. I will protect our city services while respecting your money.

3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
I will work with the residents of Ward 27 to make Toronto’s financial decisions more transparent and accountable, to make Toronto a friendly place for seniors, families and youth, to fix Toronto’s transit and transportation problems and to create vibrant neighbourhoods that residents are proud to call home.
To view my full platform, which will be released soon, visit my website at www.ellarebanks.ca or email me at info@ellarebanks.ca

4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
Toronto has always been my home.
After university, I worked for a Toronto-area Member of Parliament as well as in the financial services industry.
During this time, I met my husband, Alex Rebanks, an architect who runs his own practice. We are proud to call Ward 27 our home and to be raising our children here.
In my spare time I founded a parents’ network at my children’s school, volunteered at the June Callwood Centre, and, most recently, chaired a fundraiser for Sunnybrook and Women’s College Hospital and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.

5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
I will work with whichever mayoral candidate is elected. My focus in on the residents of Ward 27 and no matter who our next mayor is, those residents will remain my priority.
