What key issues define your campaign platform?
I was a manager at the Front and Parliament Staples for almost two years and I saw us lose thousands of dollars a month due to drug related crime. I see two memorials to drug dealers in St James Town showing the lack of police presence in our housing units. Citizens and businesses need to take back ward 28 and I want to help them. My mother lives in social housing and I’ve seen family and friends battle bed bugs, crime, and broken appliances with no help. If we expect to tackle our crime problems we must hold TCHC and the current city council accountable for this mess. Lastly, we need a more fiscally responsible government that believes in voting for tax freezes and balanced budgets versus city council wage hikes. We have to do a better job for our citizens.
Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I have a proven track record in the community and I know given the privilege to serve as a city councillor, I will work with everyone through the whole ward. I will not neglect areas nor will I divide this ward in boroughs. I want to see all of Ward 28 working together. We have problems like drugs, crime and city waste that are bigger than us all and we must come together to solve these problems. We can’t ignore it any longer nor can we continue to vote for the status quo that hasn’t supported our need for change. I think I can lead the charge on many of these issues as we try to change this city. I know a new mayor will want to change Toronto for the good and I want to be beside them as we make Toronto great again!
What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
I will cut my wage by 10% to show I’m committed to a fiscally responsible government.
I will commit myself to only two terms. I know change has to happen in government.
I want to build more playgrounds and parks in areas of this ward that have many underserved children. I want to use underused parking lots owned by TCHC to make this work.
I dream of a unified ward that promotes its business and prosperity under one BIA. I want to see neighbourhoods come together so we can support our wards economy.
Please provide details on your personal bio.
I’ve been a manager at Staples for the past two years. I’m on the board of the Federation of Metro Tenants Associations. I’m also on the board and the Secretary of the St James Town Safety Committee. As a member of the St James Town Safety Committee I’ve helped organize the St James Town Festival and I created the St James Town News in June. We hope to get another issue out this fall. St James Town Safety Committee have been working with community partners and business’s to raise enough money for a playground in St James Town.
Who do you plan to support for mayor?
I’m leaning towards George or Sarah. I’m like everyone else undecided!
