Ward 29 (Toronto-Danforth)

Ward 29, a ward bounded by Danforth Avenue, Coxwell Avenue, the Don River and CPR tracks to the northwest, is the home turf of long-time Councillor Case Ootes – one of the leaders of Toronto Council’s right-of-centre opposition and a former deputy mayor under Mel Lastman.

But that’s all over after this year – Ootes announced he’s retiring from municipal politics.

So the ward, which encompasses the northern fringes of Riverdale and about half of the old municipality of East York, is in play. Former mayoralty candidate and Ward 26 councillor

Jane Pitfield was quick to step up: she announced her candidacy the same day as Ootes announced his retirement.
