CAMPAIGN MANAGER: John Mraz

What key issues define your campaign platform?
I am committed to bringing every voter needed change to our ward. I will demand transparency at City Hall. It is your right to know how your money is being spent and why. I will fight to freeze property taxes and work to get the TTC moving again. I will show compassion to every resident of Ward 30, not just a chosen few. We need a back-to-basics approach to spending. This means that the potholes are filled, the parks are clean, the streets are safe, and the buses run on time. Wasting money, like spending $43 million on renovating Nathan Phillips Square, has got to stop. It’s time to get our priorities straight.

Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I am the best candidate for this position because I don’t have any predetermined agendas or affiliations to special interest groups. I am a resident working to make our community one of the safest, most prosperous, compassionate places to live anywhere. I will be available in the community so you can deal with me directly without having to go City Hall. I will make community consultation the priority, and conduct regular consultations online, by telephone and in person, so that your voice gets the respect it deserves. I will use my communication skills to champion your concerns.

What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
I will listen to the concerns of Ward 30’s residents and act on what they want – not what the City tells them they want. I will fight to right our roads, clean our many parks and keep our streets safe. I will create open dialogue with constituents and be available in the community when they need me.

Please provide details on your personal bio.
I’m a TV reporter, mother of two, and resident of Riverdale concerned with the spending problem we have at City Hall. I’m coming from a love of my community, not a love of politics. My children play in our local parks, participate in city programs and I see the change needed in Ward 30 first hand. I lend my time to several charities, including Rethink Breast Cancer, SickKids, Canadian Blood Services, Look Good Feel Better, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, and Voiceprint.

Who do you plan to support for mayor?
I have not endorsed any candidate to date, at this juncture. When elected, I am ready to work with any councillor and any mayor to improve this ward’s interests and quality of life.
