What key issues define your campaign platform?

Toronto must continue as a recognized leader in environmental practices including energy conservation and tackling climate change.
Good jobs, green jobs and city support for economic initiatives will make sure our city remains attractive for investment. Strong and reliable public services such as the TTC and Toronto Hydro are essential for a strong economic base.
Transit City is the only bold, realizable and affordable transit plan to take our city into the next decade. The TTC must not be sold off but customer service improvements for riders are certainly required.
Social investment in the city’s priority neighbourhoods is paying off and should be continued.
Do a better job to ensure coordination of construction projects and timely permanent repairs to patchy roads and sidewalks.
Curtail the spread of bedbugs by assisting the vulnerable and by proper protocols for treatment. The Province must recognize bed bugs as important health issue.

Why are you the best candidate for this position?
As the current Councillor, I know how to get things done for individual constituents and businesses as well whole communities. I often hear compliments on how well my staff handles constituent matters.  The immense effort to stop “big box retail” on Eastern Avenue was made possible by strong community relationships and a commitment to the local film industry.  I have a proven track record of success: with  Trustee Cathy Dandy and parents to save the school pools; with community agencies to build top notch affordable housing; to upgrading many local parks including new off leash areas. My environmental commitment is in practice – 100 solar thermal installations on homes, a green roof for Shoppers Drug Mart and solar panel for Pape Station. I shepherded through the Climate Change Plan for Toronto and brought our city into Ontario’s Greenbelt. I also initiated Toronto’s pedestrian strategy.

What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
* Continue to give great service to individuals and businesses;
* I will work to protect the film industry and film jobs and in Ward 30, both on Eastern as well as in the Port Lands;
* Historic Queen East (Don River to Degrassi) should be protected with a Commercial Heritage District like Queen West;
* Ensure appropriate scale development in all neighbourhoods;
* Work with the Riverdale arts community to build affordable housing for low income artists;
* Continue beautifying Leslie Street as the gateway to the Spit and Waterfront;
* Pedestrian safety initiatives remain high on my agenda;
* Now incineration has been ended at Ashbridges Bay it’s time to control the residual odors.

Please provide details on your personal bio.
First elected Public School Trustee in 2000, I have been Councillor since 2003.
As councillor I have worked to build FILMPORT, Canada’s largest purpose-built sound stage, the new Bridgepoint Hospital, the Zhong Hua Men Archway in East Chinatown, and the new mixed income development at Rivertowne.
In 2009 I worked with my community to successfully block big box retail on Eastern Avenue in order to preserve employment lands, promote good jobs and protect small businesses and to stop 7 million car trips annually through Leslieville.
I live in East Toronto with my husband and two kids.

Who do you plan to support for mayor?
I want a mayor we can all be proud of and who is a positive force. We are lucky to live in Toronto with the lowest tax rate in the GTA. Wise leadership at City hall is required to keep Toronto well positioned and respected in North America and internationally.
