1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
* To restore fiscal responsibility in City Hall through transparency, accountability, integrity and lowering expenses of City Council.
* To control Tax increases for Torontonians and develop responsible revenue streams for the City of Toronto.
* To work with Council to develop a long-term approach to infrastructure investment and rehabilitation with respect to road, transit, sewer and water infrastructure in ward 31 and Toronto. To ensure that Toronto works productively with Queen’s Park and Ottawa to ensure that Toronto gets its fair share of infrastructure funding.
* To work toward making changes to procurement/tendering processes to ensure that Torontonians get better value for money and that more infrastructure can be built with limited dollars.
* To improve the standard of living for all ward 31 taxpayers through the promotion of business development in ward 31, appropriate building development and more affordable housing development.
* To provide a willingness to work with Firefighters, Police, Paramedics and other city staff to improve community health and safety in ward 31 and Toronto. To provide more core service to all members of our community.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
Brenda MacDonald is the best candidate for City Council ward 31 because she is an impassioned environmentalist, a respectful professional who considers the rights of all Toronto Citizens, and a very positive team player. Brenda MacDonald has a strong conviction and character and is prepared to enable proper representation of ward 31 in City Hall.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
As ward 31 City Councillor, Brenda MacDonald will cut Councillor expense spending immediately, designate only one Candidate office for ward 31 (preferable in the ward for community access), engage the community in a professional and inclusive manner befitting of a City or Toronto Councillor by answering phone calls directly (whenever possible) and addressing Taxpayers issues and/or concerns in a timely fashion. Deliver core service appropriately to Taxpayers and work toward creating proper investment and rehabilitation of old infrastructure to road, transit, sewer and water infrastructure. Brenda MacDonald will immediately provide a willingness to work with Firefighters, Police, Paramedics and other city staff to improve community health and safety in ward 31 and Toronto.
4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
Brenda MacDonald lives and teaches singing in the Danforth and Woodbine area with her husband/pianist, Stephen Gardner, and their children. She is an active parent at Canadian Martyrs Catholic School, and is presently working part time for the Toronto District School Board as a Caretaker. Brenda has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (specializing in Music Theory, Composition and Humanities) from York University, and attended Humber College of Arts and Technology for the Developmental Services Worker Program – Developmental Handicapped (D.S.W. – D.H.) before completing university. Her first employer was the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) at W. Ross MacDonald School for the Blind in Brantford, Ontario.
