What key issues define your campaign platform?
Toronto is a great city. But we must continue to grow and invest if it is to remain a prosperous, welcoming and livable city. Transit City is underway, which will bring light rapid transit to all corners of the city. We have diverted millions of tons of garbage from landfill by composting and recycling. The revolutionary 311 service offers in-person information and help 24/7.  We’ve reduced street homelessness, created new after-school programs, invested in the arts, and beautified the City. Toronto has the lowest property tax rates in the GTA. We’ve kept essential services and public assets like the TTC and Toronto Hydro in public hands. We must continue to build on these successes – not go backward.  I have a record of leadership and results at City Hall and across Ward 31. I will continue to fight for a city that supports communities and builds for the future.
Why are you the best candidate for this position?
Over the past two terms, I have listened, worked hard, and delivered results in our community and at City Hall. I have worked with residents to improve community parks and playgrounds, solve traffic problems, support tenants, and keep our streets safe and vibrant.
My experience and leadership at City Hall has also delivered results for this community, such as a new child care centre in Crescent Town, new programs and services, improvements on the Danforth, and a modern, renovated Victoria Park station.
In the next term, I will continue to keep neighbours informed and engaged, and provide a high level of service to constituents.  There is still much to do build this community and make Toronto a great city.  I believe that my commitment, hard work, and record of getting results make me the best candidate for this position.

What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?

There is still much to do to make the City work for residents of Ward 31. I will continue to work to:
Beautify streets and public spaces, starting with Dawes Road
Invest in improving parks and recreation facilities such as George Webster Park
Work with tenants to improve housing conditions and combat the spread of bed bugs
Expand services to children and families, such as the ARC after-school program
Improve transit service and make every subway station accessible
Ensure that public services like the TTC and Toronto Hydro stay in public hands

Personal bio:
I have lived in the Ward 31 community since 1989 with my family, and have been an active parent at Earl Beatty and Diefenbaker Schools. Prior to being elected in 2003, I was a leader in fighting amalgamation and Mike Harris’s downloading, developing child care in schools, stopping privatization of the City’s water, and the city-wide effort to keep school pools open.
As a City Councillor, I have delivered results in the community and at City Hall. I have worked to expand child care, save school pools, improve community safety, enhance local business areas, and expand library hours.

Who do you plan to support for mayor?
I will be supporting Joe Pantalone for Mayor. As current Deputy Mayor, Joe has worked hard to build this City. From bringing us professional soccer and BMO Field to revitalizing Exhibition Place, Joe has proven himself a City Builder, while the rest of the candidates want to tear the City down by cutting services and selling off essential public assets like Toronto Hydro.
