Ward 1 (Etobicoke North)

Suzan Hall’s bid for re-election in Ward 1 got off to an interesting start in March when the two-term incumbent revealed that she’d rejected two $750 campaign donations from a local company trying to win community council support for a controversial digital LED billboard.

The revelation came amidst controversy surrounding the Etobicoke-York Community Council’s propensity towards approving billboard sign variances against city staff recommendations. Hall ultimately convinced her colleagues to vote down the signage in question.

Controversies aside, Etobicoke North will soon become home to the city’s newest community hub with the conversion of the old Father Henry Carr school building on Panorama Court.

The 62,000 sq. ft. Rexdale Multi-Service Community Hub will bring together at a central location service providers – including Rexdale Community Health Centre, Albion Neighbourhood Services and Rexdale Women’s Centre – and local residents to offer a range of social services and programs, as well as to provide community accessible space (including a shared gymnasium) in a neighbourhood deemed otherwise under-serviced.
