1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
Ward 1 needs smarter and stronger representation at City Hall. Over the past decade, our taxes have increased, spending has increased and the quality of services has fallen. North Etobicoke deserves better. I oppose the annual Personal Vehicle Tax and the municipal land transfer tax – both of which the current councillor chose to support. These taxes negatively affect disposable income within our community and hurt our local businesses. The Transit City initiative will bring nothing but congestion to North Etobicoke’s roads. It is costly and already delayed. Instead, I support a privately-funded extension of the existing subway system. Ward 1 needs better customer service from their councillor. So many people have approached me saying their concerns are ignored and phone calls not returned. City property is often not maintained and traffic islands are crumbling. North Etobicoke needs a city councillor who will work diligently to ensure services are delivered.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
A councillor for the former City of Etobicoke and 27-year resident of our community, I have the common sense ideas for our future and the experience of delivering results. Citizens from all over our community have called me personally, asked me to stand for election and delivered the message that it is time for a change in leadership in Ward 1. As a business operator, I understand that high taxes and poor service are no way to a successful future. We want to call Toronto a world-class city but have presided over a decade of mismanagement. Bureaucrats sole-source contracts and our politicians – including the current councillor – raise taxes to pay for it. As a citizen, I understand the importance of community safety and community pride. I have concrete plans to implement a more efficient economic development agenda and to ensure City services are directed to our community more equitably.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
I will work to eliminate the Personal Vehicle Tax and the municipal land transfer tax. I will be an advocate for responsible spending and procurement at City Hall and will oppose future tax grabs. I will work relentlessly to ensure City property is kept clean and well-maintained – not just at election time. Transparency, accountability and fair representation are important. I will personally respond to emails to telephone calls and emails, and meet you at your door. I will hold regular information and input sessions and I will vote based on what is best for North Etobicoke.
4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
North Etobicoke has been my home for more than 27 years. I am married with two children and active in my community and political life. As a councillor for Ward 12 in the former City of Etobicoke, I organized real economic development for local businesses, implemented community safety initiatives such as DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and the Underground Watch program and provided second-to-none customer service. I have built a successful career in the advertising and real estate industries and an active member and volunteer at St Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church.
5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
Rob Ford.
