1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
Toronto does not have a revenue problem, Toronto has a spending problem. I will work to freeze your taxes until we can get our spending under control. I will repeal the personal vehicle tax, stop the land transfer tax and freeze your property taxes so that we can focus on the basics that make a city run-police, roads, transit, parks, sewers and water.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I will respect your tax dollars and I will focus on the cities core responsibilities,-police, roads, transit, parks, sewers and water. Only after we have fixed these things should we focus on anything else. I have a long history of stretching a dollar while working for various charities. I have experience working with police to fight crime and experience working with at risk youth getting them involved in the community. I will make sure parks are clean, roads are fixed and that buses run on time. A vote for me will mean having a councillor that will focus on the things that matter most to taxpayers.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward if elected?
- I will fix the pot holes on Steeles every year-not just during election time.
- Ward 1 is under serviced by the TTC, I will work to freeze fares and get the buses running on time.
- Ward 1’s unemployment is too high. I will fight to bring jobs to the ward. Toronto’s commercial taxes are the highest in the GTA-driving away jobs. I will fight to lower taxes to bring back those good jobs to Ward
4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
I was born in Guyana and have lived in Etobicoke with my wife and 3 children for 30 years. I operate a food bank, raise money for charities, and coordinate blood drives with the Canadian Blood Services, in my role as the President and CEO of the International Muslim Organization. Previously I was the Chairman for the Employment Insurance Mississauga Federal Board of Referees. I am a marriage officer, a community counsellor, a former school teacher, and was the president of an Etobicoke cricket club.
5. Who do plan to support for mayor?
I am running as an independent. I can work with anyone.
