1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
- Employment: Good local jobs that provide adequate pay and benefits and keeps people out of poverty.
- Affordable Public Services: Fight to direct investment into Ward 2 that would strengthen our community and enhance the effectiveness in services.
- Taxes Control: Ensure a decent livelihood for seniors and those with fixed-income.
- Healthier Environment: Revitalize Toronto’s natural areas, clean up its port lands and make its parks safe and green areas free of toxic chemicals. Emphasize pedestrian and cycling networks.
- Better Public Transit: Expand and improve the TTC to allow citizens to get into their destinations faster and cheaper.
- Community Policing: A strong and proactive initiative that support community based policing will prevent crime and builds a stronger working relationship between the police force and our communities.
- Affordable Housing: Affordable housing and fair rents that allows citizens to spend less than 30% of their income on shelter.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I am an active and global citizen who has devoted her entire 20 years of living in Etobicoke to community social and health development and willing to answer question on how to make my Ward and this city a better place to live.
I Worked very closely with the community, and advocated tirelessly for the betterment of the quality of their lives.
I understand the issues and I know the challenges faced by the residents of Ward 2 and I have a proven ability to successfully implement solutions.
I successfully fought to get dental care for seniors here in the ward.
I was part of the policy makers who succeeded in developing the model to retrofit unused schools – like the Father Henry Carr School.
I am a job creator. When developers came to knock our door in Rexdale for a Woodbine multimillion development, I successfully advocated, together with other Community members, to fight for responsible development.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward if elected?
My main priority is to help restore the reputation of Ward 2, and create an environment that is conducive to attract business and make our Ward 2 an economically viable and attractive place.
To fight for a local job creation, Strategic investment and a better public transit.
To enforce community policing and create a harmony between police force and our communities so that our streets become safer and give our youth a better future.
Stress affordable public services that would strengthen our community and provide value for the money spent.
Combating poverty by advancing a comprehensive anti-poverty strategy, such as: creating good Jobs with adequate wage, affordable housing, affordable childcare,
4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
- Internationally trained doctor from (Italy)
- Health worker with Rexdale Community Health Centre and Coordinator on HIV/AIDs project;
- Member of the Etobicoke/York Health Committee
- Founder and chair of Etobicoke Conflict Mediation Team;
- Organized a successful soccer tournament with the Canadian Red Cross involving 16 communities around the city.
- Extensive professional experience in public health community development, social and health program planning;
- Dedicated volunteer for Canadian Red Cross, United Way, Humber River Regional Hospital, Rexdale Legal Clinic;
- Currently working as a Civil Servant with the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services.
5. Who do plan to support for mayor?
I am an open minded person who is committed to our city’s common good and collective responsibility. Therefore, I will remain independent regarding the mayoral candidates and ready to work with whoever will ultimately wins the mayoral election, as well as with other city councillors.
