1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
Two areas of concern dominate the door-step discussions in Ward 4, Etobicoke Centre. Citizens are profoundly bothered by what they feel is an inefficient, bloated City Hall which does little to demonstrate careful spending and competent management. They are tired of paying taxes and watching the city’s infrastructure deteriorate. They want more value. The operating budget (spending) has risen 47% since 2002 while inflation has gone up less than 16% in the same period and Toronto’s population has risen less than 10%. Also, in Ward 4 many residents I have spoken to are clearly unhappy with the level of public service provided to them in recent years. They cite that their concerns are commonly met with a dismissive, condescending attitude and many of those I’ve talked to have actually called Rob Ford from the neighbouring ward to help them with their difficulty.

2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
Having lived in Etobicoke Centre most of my life, I know the area and I respect the people who live here. I am private sector business person, who has served for two terms and seven years as Toronto District School Board Trustee, including two years as Chair of the Board. Through experience in business and in the TDSB, I have developed a clear understanding budgets and respect for the need to obtain value for money spent. As past-Chair of the largest school board in Canada, I also understand the importance of good governance and the need to work with administrative staff to meet constituent requirements promptly, fairly and courteously. Like many Canadians, I understand what it means to be laid off from a job, to start a company and to be self-sufficient. At the age of 40, I earned my MBA from the Schulich School of Business.

3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
Provide better service to constituents. Listen to their concerns. Show respect for their viewpoints. Get back to them promptly. I would also like to see the development of a community centre to serve seniors and youth in the Martingrove-Westway-Dixon area. Local teachers and principals and community workers know that this is an underserved part of Etobicoke and I would provide whatever assistance I could to see this come about.

4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
I grew up in Etobicoke Centre and attended local schools including Martingrove CI. In 1981 I completed my Ho. BA at University of Toronto and in 1999 I earned my MBA at Schuich. As noted above, I was twice elected TDSB Trustee and I served as Chair of the Board during 2008 and 2009. I am married and have two daughters in university. My business experience includes roles in sales and sales management with several consumer goods companies. In 2008, I started my own business and now operate my own sales agency.

5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
Rob Ford.
