1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
The key issues that define my platform are: bringing an end to the Municipal Land Transfer Tax and Vehicle Registration Tax; making garbage collection an essential service; increasing police presence within our community; while not in the Ward, the redevelopment of Downsview Park will have a significant impact on the citizens and merchants in our community, as such, I will support a sustainable redevelopment plan of Downsview Park; improving existing TTC services; promoting community revitalization and establishing community associations to be involved in the planning process; and finally to bring back accountability to City Hall in terms of how our tax dollars are spent.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I believe I am the best candidate for the position because of my educational background in politics and more importantly my education and previous work experience as a Professional Planner. As a City Planner, I gained an understanding of the importance of the role citizens have to help shape their community within the planning process. However, I do not believe the City of Toronto has fully engaged or given the tools to its citizens to actually do so. So it is my goal, as the future City Councillor of Ward 10, to reengage the community and allow them to become an intrinsic part of planning and development process.
I have also worked on various political campaigns within Ward 10 and have spoken directly to constituents. From what I have heard, they would like to have a strong and accountable voice at City Hall, which I believe I can best provide.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
I plan to help make Ward 10 a community that is vibrant and attractive to live in. Specifically, I would like to help revitalize our Ward’s Avenues and Streets so they become more pedestrian friendly and greener. I would also like to see the citizens of Ward 10 take more ownership of how their neighbourhood develops by setting up Business Improvement Associations; and working to establish Community Associations, which would be city-wide, and would become an essential part of the planning process.
4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
I am a 30 year old resident of Ward 10.
I attended the University of Toronto and graduated with a Hon. BA (Political Science Specialist). I also completed a Bachelors degree in Urban and Regional Planning at Ryerson University.
Notably among my post graduate work experiences, I was employed as a City Planner with the City of Edmonton’s Planning and Development Department, and I was a Construction Project Coordinator for the University Health Network of Toronto. I have worked on numerous political campaigns and was an Executive Member of a York Centre Riding Association.
5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
I am supporting Rob Ford.
I support the fiscally responsible platform he is running on. I also believe he has the most extensive City Council experience which is needed for the position of Mayor of Toronto.
