1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
Talking with thousands of residents in coffee shops, community meetings, social gatherings, and canvassing; the key issues that are of utter importance resolve itself into this: healthy dialogue, transparency and accountability. Many people are disdain with the lack of communication within our community. They feel that their voices aren’t being heard and that real issues go un-heeded; this prevents a healthy dialogue. Stemming from the lack of communication, the breakdown of city councillors to be responsive to their constituents can no longer be tolerated. As tax payers, we are entitled to see how and why money is being spent and if we approve of such endeavours. Finally, for councillors to be transparent they must be held accountable for their actions. It is imperative we know where every cent of our tax dollars is going. By ensuring that we follow the money, we regain the trust of our community.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I have the traits and necessities of a good leader. I have a proven track record delivering on issues of concern within our community. For example, as President of the Educational and Recreational Centre in the Antibes Community Centre, I organized countless social and cultural programs for seniors, as well as sports and educational programs for children and youth. I also created programs to assist new immigrants and low-income families, including free language courses and consulting services to help newcomers integrate into everyday life in Canadian society. All of these programs continue to operate successfully and are available to everyone regardless of income level or social status. Furthermore, I provide assistance to the Committee of Second World War Veterans, including the annual celebration of Victory Day. I take pride in being involved with organizing festivals and other cultural events that promote social harmony within our community and in our city.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward?
From talking with residents within our community, it is imperative that we address the following: safety, I will work with community groups to find pragmatic solutions for a safer community; effective solutions for public transportation, I will advocate for an efficient approach to resolve our gridlock and traffic problems as well as the improvement of TTC; long-term care for the elderly and people with disabilities, work for more social programs such as subsidized housing; communication, establish a community council which will allow residents to voice their issues and concerns.
4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
I was born in 1973 to a Russian Jewish family of a university professor and an engineer. For over 13 years, I have been married to my lovely wife Larissa and have three beautiful daughters. For over a decade, I have been actively involved in the community life of Toronto. Currently, I am the President of the Educational and Recreational Centre located at the Antibes Community Centre, the Coordinator of the Association of Soviet Jewry in Canada, a member of the Russian-Speaking Congress of Canada and a member of the Community Relations Committee of the Canadian-Jewish Congress.
5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
Toronto has the potential to be the best city in our nation and a model city for around the world, but at the present time it lacks true leadership. This is why I am open to supporting any mayor whose philosophy mimics mine, and can deliver on the issues along with concerns raised by the members in my community.
