To the south and east, Ward 11’s borders follow railway tracks. The northern border is Canada’s busiest highway and the western boundary is the Humber River, which was historically used to transport goods into the neighbourhood.

It is a community that has always been affected by transportation issues and 2010 marks a time when the city is once again considering major upgrades to its infrastructure.

Candidates in this ward have previously run on the platform of bringing a subway underneath Eglinton Avenue West.

With a new light rail system potentially on the horizon, integrating modern transportation networks without disturbing the historical feel of a community that has been located here for hundreds of years will need to be addressed by anyone who wants to hold office in this ward.

Another hot-button issue in Ward 11 is the ongoing debate about a rail link running from Union Station to Pearson Airport which would could result in diesel trains frequently running through the ward.

Candidates will need to address exactly how changes in transportation systems could affect the area in the long and short term.

This is sure to be a hot topic not only for residents, but also for but the Weston Village and Mount Dennis Business Improvement Areas who represent the concerns of small businesses in the ward.
