Steve Tasses – Ward 12 candidate
PHONE: 647-350-5777
1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
My platform is defined by 5 pillars touching upon issues affecting the community. These are: developing our community socially and economically, improving traffic conditions and transit, empowering seniors, reducing
violent crime and helping our youth achieve their potential. I feel our community has been stigmatized by the rest of Toronto. That needs to be rectified. I also feel that our citizens have been under-serviced by our current councillor. I want to make sure that we get the services and attention we deserve.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I’ve been in the area since 1961. I know the community’s needs, concerns and I know what needs to be done. Constituents come to me when they have a concern regarding the West End. I’m not a City Hall insider. I own my business in the area. Living here and working here all these years I truly love the community. I see the potential that Ward 12 has to attract business. Being a business owner and having chaired the Eglinton BIA, I know how to promote our ward. I’m not going anywhere if I’m elected. I’ll still be here working for you,
working with you.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
One of my main priorities is to make sure that the Eglinton LRT gets done and that it gets done right. I’d like to see the city fulfill its promise of connecting the LRT to Pearson International Airport. I’d also like to see the LRT go underground all the way to Jane Street. Having it come out at Black Creek Drive, a high speed intersection, is a safety hazard. I’ll work to get the Vehicle Registration Tax repealed for seniors 65 years and older. I want to get the Black Creek Recreation Centre completed after a decade of empty promises.
4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
Born in Toronto in 1956, Steve Tasses grew up, runs a successful business and continues to live in the West End.
In 1985, Steve’s path took a different direction and opened up a store, Variety & Video at the corner of Keele and Eglinton. In 1997, to improve business conditions in the area Steve founded the Eglinton Hill Business
Improvement Area (BIA). He is proud of his accomplishments as Chair of the BIA and hopes that by becoming the Councillor for Ward 12 he can apply his passion to improve the image and conditions of the West End.
5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
So far no candidate has really “wowed” me. They are not bringing much to the table when it comes to the West End of Toronto. I feel like the candidates are not talking about the us and we need attention as much as the rest of Toronto.
