Ward 17 (Davenport)

Incumbent Cesar Palacio has officially registered to run in Ward 17 Davenport again.

Should he be elected this October, it would mean a three-peat for the veteran municipal politician, first-elected in 2003 as the city’s first Hispanic city councillor.

Ward 17 has seen its share of controversy in recent years, most notably the St. Clair Streetcar Right-of-Way Project.

Now complete, the divisive project has upset several local business owners and residents alike, even prompting one business owner to file a $100 million lawsuit against the City of Toronto.

Metrolinx’s expansion of its commuter service on its Georgetown Line could mean additional diesel trains through the ward, south to north adjacent to Old Weston Road. Residents have been fighting for electric trains along the route.
