1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
Our incumbent Councillors have put us in a precarious situation. Toronto’s budget has dramatically increased from approximately $6.4 to $9.2 billion in only eight years, but yet our city’s core services continue to be sub-standard. City Hall’s inefficiency and mismanagement is obvious to all. As Willowdale’s Councillor I will bring a fresh approach to City Hall. We require a line by line review of our finances to eliminate the excess waste that currently plagues Toronto. Once this review is complete I’ll then address the ever increasing cost of living in this city by pursuing the elimination of the car registration and land transfer taxes. I’ll invest in our city’s infrastructure and ensure that the TTC is expanded and modernized so Torontonians can be proud of their public transit system. With foresight, prudence, and careful execution Toronto can achieve its potential as a world-class City.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I’m the best candidate for this position because of what I can offer as Councillor. I believe in striving to challenge the status quo in pursuit of constant progression. This approach is exactly what’s been missing in our municipal politics, as evidenced by City Hall’s lackadaisical attitude. In the last municipal election voter turnout in Willowdale was the second lowest in all of Toronto. The average term of a Councillor in this city is a staggering 18 years! Accordingly our incumbent Councillors have developed a sense of entitlement to their posts. Is there any doubt why inefficiency has become our staple? We need a new approach and Councillors who have the energy and will to get things done. I bring with me my qualifications as a legal professional, complete transparency, and the fresh approach that City Hall so desperately needs. I am the best choice for ward 24.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
Over the last decade Willowdale has experienced considerable changes. An increasing population has brought new challenges. Once relatively quiet streets now flow with traffic. This has impacted the quality and longevity of our roadways while also creating a safety concern for local residents. Certain areas require infrastructural redesign and the introduction of new traffic lights or cross-walks. The increasing population has also put a strain on our local parks, community and recreational centres. The enhancement and vitality of these places will foster local ties and an increased sense of community. I look forward to making these differences if elected.
4. Please provide details on your personal bio.
As the son of immigrants who came to Canada seeking a life of security and opportunity, I genuinely value the principles of democracy. I’ve always been politically inclined. I studied Political Science as an undergraduate and afterwards attended Law School at Queen’s University. I grew up watching the determination of my parents as they toiled to create a secure life. As an adult I’ve applied that same work ethic to multiple business ventures. I’m currently a litigator with a practice focused in wrongful dismissals. I take pride in defending the rights of the wrongfully terminated in the Ontario courts.
5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
I’m a candidate who is committed to bettering the quality of life for all residents of Toronto and Willowdale in particular. For this reason I pledge to work effectively alongside the new mayor of Toronto, whoever that may be.
