1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
We need change at city hall to put an end to wasteful practices. We must keep taxes down, get the city’s financial house in order and invest in our community. In the last four years we have seen the introduction of the Car Tax, the Garbage Tax and the Land Transfer Tax, in addition to increasing property taxes. If the city were to spend your money better we wouldn’t need to take so much money from hardworking families. We must invest more money in our roads, parks and community centres. We live in one of the safest areas in the city, but we must continue to address local issues such as increasing traffic.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
Our city needs someone who has the experience and commitment to drive real change at city hall. Denzil has been an outspoken leader against new and higher taxes and wasteful spending. He was the leader on Toronto City Council in the fight against the Vehicle Registration and Land Transfer Tax. Denzil voted against tax increases and proposed constructive ways to reduce the city’s budget. Denzil secured millions of dollars in essential infrastructure investment that has improved our roads, community centres and parks. He has proposed ways to improve pedestrian safety.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
Denzil will build on his achievements of improving the roads and infrastructure in the neighbourhood such as the expansion of the paths in Charles Sauriol Park and saving the Milne House. He will focus on addressing traffic and congestion issues on local roads. He will work to improve community safety through the expansion of pedestrian crosswalks. He will continue to keep our neighbourhoods clean though enforcing anti-postering and graffiti by-laws. He will oppose local developments that threaten the great neighbourhoods in which we live.
4. Please provide details on your personal bio
Denzil currently represents the residents of Ward 34. He is a lifelong resident and lives with his wife in the community.
Denzil has been a leader on City Council working to lower tax increases, reduce unnecessary spending and eliminate waste. He championed the establishment of Canada’s first municipal Auditor General.
Locally, Denzil has worked as a volunteer for the North York General Hospital Foundation and the Toronto Police 33 Division Community Liaison Committee.
Before entering politics Denzil was a lawyer in private practice. He attended Senator O’Connor College School and Osgoode Hall Law School.
5. Who do you plan to support for mayor?
Denzil is concentrating on his own ward at this time and has not any mayoral candidates at this time. He will support candidates who will work to get the city’s financial house in order, keep taxes down, invest in our community and promote transit in our city.
