1. What key issues define your campaign platform?
The Spadina Subway Extension is a very important issue. People here have been waiting for this extension for many decades. The new subway will provide fast transit into downtown and will bring billions of dollars of new investment into our community. It will create thousands of well paying jobs and many new opportunities for growth and renewal in our area.
With rising costs, senior’s ability to continue to live in their own homes is also becoming a major issue. Pensions are not keeping up with rising costs such as gas, hydro, insurance, taxes, water etc., Councillor Perruzza has been able to successfully assist low income seniors by expanding the property tax increase cancellation program and water rebate program.
2. Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I have lived in York West for 43 years. I care about this community and I love this city. I have the experience, commitment and determination to work hard for the interests of my Ward and the interests of the City. For the past 3.5 years I have achieved some very significant wins for our community and the City. I have won approval to expand cost saving programs for Seniors. I fought for and won approval to create a dedicated team of inspectors to do audits of multi-residential rental buildings which is intended to improve living conditions for residents. I have worked to create more opportunities for youth. I have worked to clean up parks by involving local schools. I have planted flowers and trees. I have involved people from every community in the ward to make our area better, safer stronger for all of us.
3. What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
I will continue to work to ensure that the subway extension is completed taking into account rgw needs of its users and the local community. I will work to ensure seniors are eligible to cancel their property tax increases and have more of their water bills rebated. I will work to ensure that more youth are hired through the city’s capital work projects. I will continue to work to clean our parks, plant trees and flowers, create beatification projects. I will work to make our property standards inspection program more effective so that living conditions for tenants improve.
