What key issues define your campaign platform?
As city councillor, Diane Hogan will stand up for the needs of all residents of Ward 36. Diane will make sure that the issues facing Ward 36, such as sensible public transit solutions, transportation issues, urban planning issues, and development issues are addressed with vision, with fiscal responsibility, and most importantly, in consultation with residents of Ward 36.
She will make sure that city hall fixes its spending problem and that it adopts a deficit-cutting budget. Diane will insist on an accurate picture of the city’s finances, making sure that the budget fiscal year ends align. Diane will make sure that business taxes in Toronto, currently at around three per cent, are reduced to more competitive business tax rates at around 2.5 per cent, in step with the 905 regions. This will help to save jobs and create new ones in Toronto and will stop the bleeding of good jobs to the 905 regions.
Why are you the best candidate for this position?
Diane Hogan is the best candidate for councillor of Scarborough Southwest because she deeply cares about this area having lived here most of her life and having worked in the Ward for the past twenty years. Diane is ready to roll up her sleeves to work effectively with city council. She has extensive professional experience in the non-profit co-op housing sector, has managed large operating and capital budgets, and is committed to responsible decision-making with fiscal accountability and transparency. Diane is ready to stand for Ward 36 issues, such as the Quarry Lands and the Offshore Wind Turbines, because of her years of successful oversight of complex capital projects and special environmental projects. Diane is ready to work with City Council to fix the City’s budget deficit, to make sure transit solutions are right for Scarborough and for Toronto, and to address the pressing issues facing the city today.
What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
Diane Hogan will stand up for Scarborough Southwest concerning the Offshore Wind Turbines along the Scarborough Bluffs by fighting vigorously against placing these turbines along the Scarborough shoreline. In addition, Diane will work to ensure that Toronto’s urban planning rights cannot be superseded by the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB), as in the case of the Quarry Lands, and she will continue to support the residents in their fight against over-congested hi-rise development of these lands. Diane will also make sure that Scarborough receives the subway expansions that it so desperately requires for a sensible public transit solution.

Who do you plan to support for mayor?
