What key issues define your campaign platform?
Vicki’s campaign platform is focused on delivering fiscally responsible and accountable municipal representation to the residents of her own area, Ward 36. She seeks to do so in a collaborative fashion, drawing in the views and ideas of area residents. Vicki places a large emphasis on quality customer service and seeks to ensure that all questions and issues are promptly responded to. Vicki is concerned about the apparent lack of consideration for Scarborough’s needs in the current council and hopes to direct more focus to the area. She believes that Toronto requires a comprehensive long-term plan in place that addresses all modes of transportation –bikes, cars, public transit, pedestrian – and the current patchwork approach is not working. On a local front, Vicki is opposed to the proposed development of the Quarry Lands and the proposed location of the wind turbines along the ecologically sensitive areas including the Scarborough Bluffs.
Why are you the best candidate for this position?
As a long-time resident of the Ward, Vicki is intimately familiar with the needs and issues of the neighbourhood and wants to make a difference where she lives. Vicki is fiscally conservative, but still socially responsible. Not previously involved in the political scene and not a politician by nature, Vicki brings fresh new ideas and a private sector perspective to council. Vicki’s engaging personality assists in promoting community involvement, building consensus, and working in a collaborative fashion to resolve conflicts. Through her varied past experience, Vicki has participated in priority setting, financial reviews, budget analysis and contract negotiations. Vicki’s familiarity and commitment to the area combined with past experience and expertise makes her uniquely suited to represent the residents of Ward 36.
What specifically do you plan to do for your ward, if elected?
In the spirit of collaboration and community involvement, Vicki looks to establish Community Improvement Associations, Business Improvement Associations and Youth Advisory Councils. More community involvement equals a cleaner and safer community whose interests are properly represented. Building upon this and working with local businesses and the community, Vicki would like to revitalize Kingston Road which is traveled by over 30,000 cars each day. This would drive additional business into the ward and improve the surroundings for area residents. In addition, Vicki would work to find creative ways to attempt to address community concerns related to Windmills and the Quarry Lands
Personal bio:

While not previously involved in politics, Vicki has been working in an analytical and advisory capacity for government and regulatory bodies for the past ten years. Prior to that, Vicki spent ten years working in the financial services industry. Her volunteer activities in the past have included organizing charity events, coaching youth soccer, volunteering at the CHUM City Christmas Wish, food banks and local community events around Scarborough.
Who do you plan to support for mayor?
Vicki has not publicly thrown her support behind any of the mayoral candidates as she is awaiting more detailed platform and policy information before making a decision. If elected, she does however feel that she would be able to work with any of the candidates.
