The future of the Scarborough RT is one of the top issues in Ward 37 Scarborough Centre heading into this October’s municipal election.

The redevelopment and extension of the rapid transit line was given the go ahead last year when the province announced $9 billion in funding for the city’s Transit City projects. But the timing is in question after the release of the provincial budget in March which cut $4 billion from the Transit City plan, causing outrage among Toronto municipal politicians.

Scarborough politicians have also been pushing for the construction of a Brimley RT station to serve the growing number of condominium residents in the Brimley Road and Ellesmere Avenue area.

The riding is roughly bounded by Eglinton Avenue to the south, Victoria Park Avenue to the west, Ellesmere Road to the north and Brimley Road to the east.
