What key issues define your campaign platform?
Spending- Needs to be curbed at city hall. Support cutting the number of city councillors in half.
No Wind turbines in Lake Ontario – TRCA just passed my motion for a moratorium.
Public Transit- We need a subway through Scarborough to help spur development. The management model of the TTC needs changing. It shouldn’t be run by city councillors.
Priority Neighbourhoods- Needed to be better supported
Youth Programs- Better co-ordination between City and school boards to use school facilities after hours.
Economic Development- Scarborough needs its own Chamber of Commerce.
Public Realm: Create additional green space and public space while beautifying our existing ravines and parks such as Morningside Park and the Scarborough waterfront.
Community Bus- As the population ages, we need a community bus for local residents to access services.
Why are you the best candidate for the position?
I have been a resident of Scarborough East all of my life. I am committed to our community. I grew up on Waldock Street and am now raising our three children with my wife Janet. Through my commitment to the community I have helped spearhead many initiatives, community groups, and events in Ward 43. I have a strong belief in public service. I believe the first order of
government is to ensure the city is working properly to address everyday issues which effect the lives of my constituents. Government should be here to work with you, not like going to the doctor and being told what is ‘good for you”. I have the experience to continue to help make Ward 43 a better place for all families to live, grow, and prosper.
What do you plan to do specifically for your ward if elected?
I ran on a platform last time of ensuring ward 43 was a place to raise a family in a strong safe vibrant community. A place where you could watch your children grow, and be assured you will have the services you need when they leave to continue to live in your home. This is what makes a
stable community. Everything I have done has been centered around this approach to municipal government. Residents need to see their hard earned tax dollars are spent on the business of taking care of their community. My wife and I pay our property taxes to the city and I will continue to work hard to see my residents get value for the tax dollars they entrust me with.
Personal bio:
A life long resident of Scarborough East. I am married. My wife and I are raising three children. I attended St. Martin de Porres Roman catholic School (Morningside /Lawrence Ave), Neil McNeil High School, and York University. Previously, I worked for city councillor David Soknacki. I
ran my own successful small business for 14 years. In my spare time I am a leader with Scouts Canada in the Seven Oaks community in the north end of my Ward. Currently, my wife Janet and I are the co-chairs for a community based fund raising drive at Centenary Hospital to buy more hospital beds.
Who do you support for mayor?
I will respect the vote of my residents and work with the elected mayor to ensure that our community receives the service it deserves. I am fiscally responsible and will work towards making city hall responsible to all taxpayers.
