Ward 44 (Scarborough East)

Ward 44 encompasses many long-standing neighbourhoods – West Hill, Highland Creek, Port Union and West Rouge – in the southeast corner of Scarborough.

Infill development is among the issues being raised in the community as the municipal election approaches.

These concerns include townhouse developments in West Hill, including Habitat for Humanity projects.

Clearing of lands that were considered natural areas by the community are also of concern to residents. One case on Island Road particulary raised the ire of West Rouge residents.

Also at issue is the possible wind turbine project in Lake Ontario. The wind turbines would be located in the lake between Ajax and the Leslie Street Spit.

Incumbent Ron Moeser won by just 61 votes in the 2006 election against challenger Diana Hall. Both are running again.
