1. Why are you the best candidate for trustee?
* I have a direct stake in the future of my children, and the future of my community. I can bring creative solutions and compromises to issues that polarize people. I see the role of School Trustee being executed in different, yet effective ways.
* I oppose the ‘too much for too many’ policies historically being ushered in by the TDSB.
* I support a back-to-basics attitude to education and school life.
* I support a total ban on firearms in our public schools and our communities.
2. What changes would you like to see at the school board in the next four years?
* The power to enforce an immediate ban of firearms in our schools, and help the City do the same for our communities.
* Implement the actionable items and reprioritize the recommendations set forth in the The Road to Health: A Final Report on School Safety.
* A decision on the length of time a Trustee is able to hold office.
* A program to assist parents and students transition from daycare (or other countries) into the public system.
* The inclusion of a provincially-assigned Ombudsman
* Conduct Board meetings in a more effective and efficient manner.
* To see school pride back on the faces of all Toronto Public School Trustees, teachers, and students
3. What is your position on the TDSB consolidating under-enrolled schools and selling off closed school properties?
* A billion-dollar agency like the TDSB should be able to manage the present without bankrupting the future. I believe that currently the Board is exploring lease agreements
* I support alternative means of capital generation and discovering appropriate public/public and public/private partnerships.
* I support long term planning that responds to demographic shifts that may indicate the need for expansion.
4. Do you support the province’s decision to try to negotiate two-year, no wage increase contracts with the school board’s unionized employees when existing agreements expire?
I support the hard working parents that want the best education for their children. We are living under the cloud of fiscal austerity, and that can mean many things to many public agencies. The Ministry of Education must take a stand on the enforcement of the Education Act – as children have a right to public education, regardless of economy. I do not support any decision that may affect the education of our children.
5. Please provide personal details on your bio.
* I am a long-time resident of Ward 7, and a proud graduate of its public schools. I attended Runymede P.S, Humbercrest P.S, Runnymede C.I, Humberside C.I, and Western Tech. I also worked at the Runnymede Public Library as a youth. Currently I walk from Roncesvalles Village, through Parkdale, to work as a Senior Designer at a firm located in Liberty Village.
* I look forward to my children following in my footsteps.
