————————————————————————-
1. Why are you the best candidate for trustee?
As
an
experienced
trustee
I
have
a
proven
track
record
to
get
things
done,
and
to
act
as
a
strong
advocate
for
parents
and
students.
I
am
the
only
candidate
with
Scarborough
Board
of
Education
experience
so
I
bring
a
historical
perspective.
As
a
business
professional
I
have
worked
with
unions,
large
budgets
and
I
have
a
recognized
ability
to
find
creative
solutions
with
limited
funds.
I
have
the
experience
to
bring
the
TDSB
into
the
21st
century
in
technology
in
education.
As
a
parent
with
two
daughters
in
public
schools
I
know
the
concerns
that
parents
have
and
understand
the
importance
of
keeping
parents
informed.
As
an
involved
community
member I
understand
the
link
between
the
importance
of
strong
thriving
schools
and
having
a
safe
neighbourhood.
2. What changes would you like to see at the school board in the next four years?
*
Renewed
focus
on
local
schools
*
More
resources
directed
to
the
classroom
*
Ensuring
that
all
curriculum
fees
are
covered
so
that
parents
are not
paying
the
costs
*
More
student
and
parental
choice
for
programming
*
Emphasis
on
high
teaching
standards
in
schools
and
ensuring
teachers
are
receiving
the
development
that
they
need
to
perform
at
a
high
level
*
Ensuring
that
students
have
the
skills
to
survive
in
a
global
economy
*
More
support
for
the
trades
as
a
viable
option
for
students
to
pursue
*
Renewed
commitment
to
making
our
schools
safe
including
maintenance
issues.
3. What is your position on the TDSB consolidating under-enrolled schools and selling off closed school properties?
Changes
like
this
cannot
even
be
considered
without
an
enormous
amount
of
consultation
with
parents
and
the
community.
There
is
not
a
‘one
size
fits
all
solution’.
There
are
so
many
factors
that need
to
be
considered,
including
busy
and
major
streets,
unattended
railroad
tracks,
safety
of
students
in
general. Decisions
have
to
be
made
locally
and
must
be
a
win‐win
solution.
As
trustee,
I
have
never
closed
a
school
in
my
area;
instead
I
found
creative
solutions
to
keep
them
open,
for
example,
by
creating
the
first
technology
school
in
Scarborough
at
SATEC@W.A.
Porter
C.I.,
and
by
moving
programs
‐
with
parental
and
community
support
‐
to
have
students
in
buildings
rather
than
portables.
4. Do you support the province’s decision to try to negotiate two-year, no wage increase contracts with the school board’s unionized employees when existing agreements expire?
The
provincial
take over
of
bargaining
with
all
school
board
unions
has
made it
a
provincial
issue
rather
than
a
local
school
board
issue.
It
really
should
be
a
local
school
board
decision
as
the
cost
of
living
is
not
the
same
in
Toronto
as
it
is
in
other
parts
of
Ontario.
This
is
one
of
the
reasons
I
want
to
be
re‐elected
as
Public
School Trustee
in
order
to
make
decisions
that
affect
students,
parents
and
staff.
Local
decisions
should
be
made
locally.
