1. Why are you the best candidate for trustee?
I believe that the Toronto of the future must include the reality of the present: a multicultural, multilingual, multifaceted clientele that demands a board that is accessible to all. Gone are the days when a student succeeded or failed according to a single immovable standard. Today’s world requires minds that are flexible, creative and continuously learning. This demands resources and educators that must do the same. I believe in this vision and remain committed to seeing my goals accomplished for our students and their families. My history shows that I am on the front lines fighting for my constituents’ best interests, and listening to their ideas and concerns.

2. What changes would you like to see at the school board in the next four years?
Many of our students come from monocultures and possibly antiquated learning systems. They need to catch up to other learners who are benefiting from our Canadian system. Here are some ongoing initiatives regarding group dynamics and healthy living (Please see brochure or website www.votesoowong.com for more information):
* Promoting pro-social behaviour and acknowledging students who demonstrate respectful, courteous and positive attitudes to learning, each other and public property
* Encouraging the use of programs about different cultures and lifestyles which cultivate respect for diversity
* Encourage the development of effective literacy skills for junior and middle school learners to ensure that more students achieve success in our high schools

3. What is your position on the TDSB consolidating under-enrolled schools and selling off closed school properties?
I believe that in seeking public input on under-enrolled schools. I also believe that closed school properties should be considered for community use such as the creation of community hub. The sale of schools should be the last choice.

4. Do you support the province’s decision to try to negotiate two-year, no wage increase contracts with the school board’s unionized employees when existing agreements expire?
This is a financial question. I believe my decision will focus on the following principles:
a. Student centred;
b. Minimal effect in the classroom; and
c. Ensure quality education is maintained.
I can’t really answer this question at this time as I have not received any analysis of this type of collective agreement changes but more importantly how this change may have impact in the classroom and students’ learning. I support maintaining current staffing.
